We were looking for sushi boats for our trip to Calgary and instead we came across point sushi with their bullet train. The staff was friendly and helpful as they explained how their system worked. It was great. We loved the ability to order from the little device at our table and having the bullet train deliver the food right at our table. It was super handy to have a hot water tap right at the table as well. The variety of food was nice - some cooked, some sushi, etc. Overall, we had a great experience at this restaurant. We would definitely be going back.
Oh wow, did the service and food quality went down the hill?I remember coming here just before covid hit, food and service was great, however it's not the same anymore.Walked in last night for a dinner with the family 1hr before closing and was greeted by the owner (the guy in short dyed hair). Asked for a table for 5 and was told with an attitude there's a smaller table but if you want to wait 30mins we can get you a bigger table, then he said the place is closing soon... even before I can answer. I was think myself .. like do you want us to eat here? why would you want to give us that option... Opted for the smaller table... fine. Here comes the food... Salmon and toro sashimi.. WOW, $8.20 for 3 tiny pieces. I was just blown away from the size of the sashimi. Come on guys!!!?.. Wake up, if you're charging that much, don't price gouge and take it out on us consumers. It just feels like another chinese baffet quality sushi experience all around. I'm happy to support local businesses, but this was absolutely horrendous experience. Probably never go back here again...Here's a tip to the owner, visit any Kinjo and see how they operate. Gold standard!??
Point Sushi became my favorite spot to satisfy my sushi craving during my stay in Calgary for Stampede. If you're solo (as I was) or a couple, I recommend eating at the bar which is one of the highlights of eating there. Also, if it's busy I think you might get seated faster if you choose the bar. The prices are very reasonable. I really enjoyed the rich and diverse selection of sushi foods. Traveling from out of town, I used this opportunity to try fish and combos that I had never tried before at a sushi restaurant. The staff were also friendly. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Calgary.
Loved it! The experience here reminded me of some of the sushi places in Japan where you can grab a quick inexpensive bite. Lots of choices and I love the novelty of a shinkansen bringing you food. Great for keeping kids entertained.
—Summary of this review at bottom—It is a fun experience watching your food come on a train rail but that is where the good stops about this restaurant. This restaurant seems to uphold on this gimmick to try to make up for the subpar experience and average pricy food. The software to order food is BEYOND TERRIBLE, you can only order 4 items at a time which can get tedious with a large party and the organization for where the food is placed is horrible. Some menu items that were displayed aren’t even on the tablet. It would be nice to have a tour of how to use their software either by an assistant or on the tablet itself. We had a large party and ordered a variety of food and the food is really subpar. Nothing is worth getting again except the sushi (although mediocre). Being in downtown I expected the cost to be a bit high but with it I also expected a much better food experience but everything was a tremendous waste of money. For example:- $8 for karaage chicken bowl with few chicken nuggets but a lot of white rice.- $4 for yam fries that are smaller portion than a McDonald’s small size lol- $8 for a ramen bowl with portions smaller than a children’s bowl- $9 for BBQ pork bun- $9 for 4 dumplingsWe payed $150 for 4 people and with the small portions the food wasn’t very fulfilling. In summary: stick to sushi and don’t bother with their “hot food” section, the train gimmick is fun but the excitement dies pretty quickly with the poor and overpriced food. I personally won’t be coming back, I’ve had better Japanese food in Marlborough lmao
Best sushi I’ve had! Super fresh ingredients and the flavours are amazing. Their tempura sushi and dumplings are so so good. And the yam fries are out of this world!A unique experience, would definitely recommend! :)
Very fun experience. We came for sushi didn’t know they had that cool experience of ordering through a tablet. And instead of servers there is a bullet train tray that brings you your food and drinks. The anticipation to hear the bell sound when you have food on the way it’s pretty cool. Service is fast and easy and fun. I don’t mind not having to talk to a server. The only bad part is no food mods are possible. It’d be cool if it was added to the tablet software. And just a couple of simple options to remove one of the ingredients or a sauce/Mayo.The menu is on the affordable side as well. Recommend!
Really fun experience! There's something really special about having your food delivered on a train. The staff were super helpful and very friendly! The food and sushi are decent but the experience itself is 90% of the fun. They also got us in fairly quickly without reserving a table beforehand (about 20 mins wait). Fair notice, the free parking garage is TIGHT. If you've got an SUV/truck, you'll have an easier time parking on the street or in a lot.
Surprisingly good!! Beyond my expectations. Food is fresh especially the sashimi, so many to choose from. You directly order from the iPad and food serve to you via bullet train. Fun and new experience
Best expierence for sushi in calgary. The electric trains do a fantastic job and its not only exciting for the kids but also for adults. The food is great and well prepared. There are no servers bcuz u order on a tablet which is super easy to use. The hot water spouts are directly at your stations for easy tea distribution. I highly suggest you make a reservation in advance as this is a popular place and wait times are 40mins+ without a reservation. Prices are moderate and affordable. Highly suggest going . We will go again for sure!
