The business is appropriately named as the pies are JUNK! We went to the Crowfoot location. Without a doubt the WORST lemon meringue pie we have ever had. The crust was so tough that a knife would not cut through it. I had to use the very tip of a butchers knife to try and get through the crust. The lemon filling was a runny custard with a bitter taste. For $29.00 this is disgusting! Was so hopeful it would be good. I will never go to Pie Junkie again. My mother in law is 89 and said she has never had such a tough pie crust ever. If was funny seeing her pick it up like a piece of pizza to try and bite through the crust! Wish I had just gone to Co-op, Safeway or Sobeys as they make far better pies.
I should've read the reviews first! We got two different pies yesterday for pi day, but was really disappointed at how hard/tough the crust was! Filling was just ok - the mocha was so dense, I guess I prefer more creamy/silky/airy chocolate filling. However, the staff was very friendly and happy to answer any and all questions.
So we had 2 of the small meat pies and 2 of the chicken. The crusts were just...bad and super hard. Half the meat pie was mushroom and not enough meat. The chicken was okay but the crust again was pretty bad. We also had 4 of the strawberry white chocolate pies....man I was disappointed and even those crusts were so hard and not tasty. The filling in those pies were not great either. I just can't recommend the place, regardless of price.
Stopped by this location while running some errands in Westman Village over the weekend and was not disappointed! So many options, I always have a hard time choosing. A crowd favourite among my friends is the salted honey. Worth the money in my opinion to have a pie hand made rather than the ones you would find in a grocery store.
Pie Junkie Review:⭐ Butter Chicken ⭐ - Absolutely ridiculous. I would never have thunk a pie place could make butter chicken filling this amazing. 10/10BBQ Chicken - The flavors were more standard and expected in a savory pie. The calzone style wrap was a great touch. 8/10Brie & Pear - Nice idea, but way too rich for me. I'm also not a huge fan of pears. As is the case with all of them, the crust was great, but overall, just too much for me. 5/10⭐ Raspberry Cheese cake ⭐ - This one blew my mind. The raspberry was very sweet, and appropriately tart, which provided an amazing juxtaposition to the umami of the cheese. The crust again, was perfect. 10/10Lemon pie - Probably the best lemon anything I've ever had. Lemon is not my favorite, but I appreciated it for what it was. Very good. 8/10⭐ Apple Pie ⭐ - Very amazing. This was the last one I consumed, so I probably took how good the crust is for granted. Consumed with ice cream. My favorite. 9/10
Worst pie crust I've ever tasted. Fillings were so-so.
The crust of any pie was certainly not flaky very hard had to use a knife to cut into it they did not have big pies so I got small savory pies. The insides were tasty but could not eat the thick hard crust. Only went because I had a gift certificate. Never again
I visited the Kensington location last week. I'd never been so i wanted to try a few different flavours for girls night and nye. I bought thelsrge chocolate orange panna cotta, a small banana toffee pie & a small classic apple pie. The flavours were delicious. All of us found the crust to be difficult to cut through with a fork. Not flaky and not very flavourful. Paying nearly $50 for 1 large pie and 2 small ones, i hoped for a more delicious overall product.
Wonderful and authentic place. Love me my Lamb sheppards pie - just like my grandma used to make it. We ordered a sour cherry pie for Christmas pick up on the 24th, the ladies were so lovely even though it was crazy busy. Our order was ready for pickup when we got there. The pies are always fresh. Would highly recommend!
I don't get the hype for Pie Junkie. I've tried it twice and won't again. The "pastry" is like gravel, not at all light or flaky or pleasant to chew. It's hard, crunchy and tough. Seasoning is lacking in the steak, stout and gruyere pie, and other savoury pies I have tried. They never have the banana toffee which people rave about. Things look pretty, but are overpriced for the quality, which is lacking. I can make a better pastry myself. I expect when I purchase from a professional outfit that the goods they make should be top notch.
