Tried their buffet today. Everything was very very tasty and food was fresh which is very commendable considering they had huge crowd. Great quality food. Ice cream was a surprise since you hardly find a good ice cream at buffet but their ice cream was also equally good. Must try
Honestly I would have to say at first I wasn't a big fan ofthis place when they first opened but now I order fromhere 5-7 times a month they are my favourite restaurantin YYC! Plus during this month I have come almostevery second day to their restaurant with both myfriends and family for their Iftar buffet. The food isabsolutely amazing and they provide excellentcustomer service every time I go. I don't know whypeople hate on them but you guys are doing anamazing job keep up the good work!! Ps. My favouriteitems I recommend are any of their soups, hakkanoodles, chilli chicken, kung pao, Manchurian fried rice,Manchurian chicken gravy and you can never go wrongwith their lollipop chicken soooo goooooddd!
Yesterday I went to the Calgary restaurant 80 Ate fashion at night. Their food is very very tasty .I believe that in the city of Calgary if anyone wants to eat Chinese food this restaurant would be the best place. To mention that all the staff at the restaurant are very good and very caring. I would recommend my friend and you to visit this restaurant
During the Ramadan of 2022, we kept forgetting to get a reservation and finally got one in time to bring the family for a buffet.None of us had been in the building before but our first reaction upon entering was a bit of surprise at the decor. I guess the asian restaurant and lounge that existed before was a nice place. They had maintained much of the decor but there were sections closed off and could have used some attention to bring them up to full usage. Two of our family noticed an 'old' smell of cigarettes masked by odour absorbers which is sad because the inside was fairly nice with nice tables and interesting decor. A coat or two of paint and some minor fixes could easily restore the place to its hinted former grandeur. As for the food, it was a typical East Asian style buffet with a Hakka twist so it had common foods like sweet and sour chicken, some noodle dishes, and some Hakka foods like Manchurian chicken with a distinctly Indian fusion. While there were no amazing standouts, there were no bad foods either. The general reaction was the food was 'ok'. However, my wife was praising the rice and the soups so maybe OK+. It was all halal so having another halal fusion place was a good thing.Typically in buffets it's hard to do everything right so I applaud the effort. The fact that nothing was really screwed up is still a victory. The variety of foods was good with some Indian dishes mixed in including a surprisingly decent Chaat Papri. They had tried pakoras but I don't know if they had been sitting under heat lamps too long as they were a bit dry. They provided several ok desserts including a good fruit salad. Finally, the whole family was a fan of the the fact that they provided unlimited scoops of a variety of ice creams which was super popular for us and somewhat unexpected. The staff appeared very young - almost as if the family kids where running the evening. I could see that they were trying hard with the restaurant fully booked and they were very responsive to our requests. They even asked for specific feedback on the foods which they graciously took without getting defensive. Given the fullness of the place, I think they did a reasonable job in remaining attentive to the customers while ensuring an orderly experience at the buffet. Good job, kids!Because the place was so full, it was actually quite loud with screaming babies and stuff. This was a family event so that is to be expected (and possibly even encouraged), but a combination of wood walls and a somewhat enclosed space did seem to make the place a little louder than it should have been. For us, I'd like to try the place again after Ramadan to see what a more normal experience might be. There was enough fusion cuisine to intrigue me to see what they do with the place in the future. They were actually a downtown restaurant that relocated to the the International Ave and I hadn't tried them before. I'm glad I did, but I really want to give them another chance in a less chaotic (albeit happy) dining experience scenario.Living in a suburb rather than near this place, we have access to other Hakka food so that alone is not worth a drive to 17th SE. In fact that food closer to us has been a bit tastier although the selection was more restricted. It's more likely that if I'm in the neighbourhood or seeking a buffet cause I don't know what I want to eat, then this place easily fits the bill. But for God's sake, change the old Dragon Gate sign to reflect the new name or switch the name of your restaurant to Dragon Gate (at least that one doesn't seem like it's in use anymore).
No food being refilled. Had to go to another restaurant for Iftar dinner. Worst place to host a dinner for friends and family
Extremely bad customer service. They do overbooking and are not able to meet demand. We went there for iftar dinner tonight and were surprised that almost all the food was finished before even the fast was opened! All they could say is that we are running behind (as usual). The biryani looked stale and we were afraid of ending up with an upset stomach on the following day. We had invited some friends for dinner and it was quite embarrassing to play host in such a situation. Ended up leaving with our company to have dinner at another restaurant. Avoid this place like a plague if you don't want to face embarrassment!
Good food but very bad service. Only few iftaar buffet items and its tucked in the corner. Over 100 people came for iftaar and because there was one Buffett table it took us 35 mins in line to get our food and by the time our turn came, it was almost empty. They just couldn't keep up with refilling the buffet counter. Not sure why restaurants don't have 2 buffet counters when serving so many people and why don't they keep it in the middle so people can grab food from both sides.. I will never go for iftaar again.
This place is very clean, first time here. Server was friendly. Ordered shrimp tempura and chef special starter (contain spring rolls, chicken roll and ribs) it all tastes same. Did not taste good. It took a while to get our order. Fried rice was okay beef and chicken was amazing giving 3 stars for overall experience.
Had dined in here with my family last week. We had order the hot and sour soup, chilli chicken, Manchurian fried rice and lollipop chicken..everything tasted perfectly divine and would 100 percent order and come here again. Everything was hot and at good level of spice.
Pathetic experience for visiting 1st time at the restaurant. Seems unprofessional staff, order taken at 8 35 pm and till 9 20 pm the staff didn't even place order .On inquiring at main reception about the order they also don't know about order waiting time .Usually restaurant give appetizers within 10 to 15 mins after the order placed and here at this restaurant we were on hold for more than 30mins with no order was forwarded to the kitchen. If you value your money and time don't go to this restaurant.
